The schools division of JSE-listed ADvTECH has been recognised for its major contribution and commitment to the environment and sustainability by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) at an awards ceremony on Friday, March 7.

In recognition of significant strides made, 38 schools received a Bronze Award. Notable achievements included:

The top-performing WESSA portfolios within ADvTECH include Crawford Sandton, Crawford North Coast, Crawford La Lucia, Maragon Olympus and Abbotts Northcliff.

Desiree Hugo, Academic Head at ADvTECH Schools, says the group believes that education must be transformed to respond to global environmental challenges.

“Our partnership with WESSA ensures our curricula encourage students to explore environmental knowledge and help protect our natural resources. We are proud to be WESSA’s partner of choice as we continue building on our endeavour of becoming intentional sustainability institutions.”

She says ADvTECH recognises the critical role that educational institutions play in shaping the future of society.

“By partnering with WESSA, we aim to integrate environmental education throughout our curricula, empowering students to become active stewards of the planet. This growing partnership is a significant step in our journey towards creating a generation of leaders who are not only academically proficient but also environmentally conscious and socially responsible.”

WESSA CEO Cindy-Lee Cloete says the partnership underscored ADvTECH’s commitment to environmental education and sustainability.

“We are delighted to see the impact of our partnership with ADvTECH, as it embodies the spirit of collaborative action towards a sustainable future. By integrating environmental education into their curricula, ADvTECH is not only enhancing the academic experience but also empowering students to become active stewards of the planet.

“This partnership is a testament to the power of education in driving positive change and ensuring that future generations are equipped to address the environmental challenges of our time.”
