Financing Africa’s Renewable Energy Future: Addressing the Infrastructure Challenge

Africa is experiencing a renewable energy boom, but the continent faces a monumental challenge: how to finance the infrastructure needed to support its growing energy demands. With Africa’s population projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050, the need for sustainable and scalable energy solutions has never been more urgent. The International Energy Agency estimates that an annual investment of $190 billion is required to meet Africa’s energy and climate goals, yet much of this financing gap remains unfulfilled.

The Africa Energy Indaba 2025, taking place from 4–6 March 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, will convene global leaders, investors, and innovators to tackle these pressing infrastructure needs. Africa’s energy transformation is vital not only for its economic development but also to provide electricity access for the 600 million Africans still living without reliable energy.
