With the likes of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration launching in 2021, Greenpop are busy building on this global, green momentum to take action for a bright green future. Reforest Fest is back for it’s 10th year from 1-3 April 2022, at Bodhi Khaya situated in the Overberg.
The Greenpop Reforest Fest is an annual restoration celebration that brings people together to plant thousands of trees while enjoying a celebration like no other.

Headliner Announcements
Hot Water are set to headline the stage that has made Reforest Fest a true celebration of restoration! Their vibrant upbeat music, such as their beloved track “Wamkelekile” is sure to re-energise the tree planters, as Hot Water delivers timeless uplifting South African music and performances that definitely bring the magic.
Zolani Mahola, former lead singer of critically acclaimed pan-African supergroup Freshlyground, is the The One Who Sings. She will open the Saturday night with a fire ceremony leading into her performance backed by her powerful all-female ensemble. Zolani is well-loved by South Africans for unifying the country through art, bridging social, racial and cultural divides.
In her own words: “Our world is changing. The old stories have worn thin. We are telling new stories now. We are creating new realities: ones which inspire and give us true power.”
Reforest Fest’s past
Greenpop’s biggest planting event of the year has always been the Reforest Fest at Platbos Forest Reserve, where they have planted between 5,000 and 10,000 trees each year since 2011. 85645 endemic trees have been planted there, restoring forest habitat and furthermore helping to preserve and expand a forest that is home to many incredible, often endangered, species including the Cape leopard.
This year, they will continue their important work across the road at Bodhi Khaya, located 2.5 hours drive away from Cape Town in the Overberg region. Greenpop’s planting efforts in the Overberg valley are growing and they will be planting trees in pockets of previously forested land, as part of a broader ecosystem restoration management plan in development by the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy. Greenpop aims to grow the Reforest Fest into a flagship event that attracts a global audience as Africa’s largest citizen-led restoration festival.
